Three’s Company are seeking talented, enthusiastic actresses of all ages and backgrounds to perform an all-female production of Romeo & Juliet.
- We’ll keep this post updated with the latest audition info, check the bottom of the post for updates.
The show is the exploratory debut of a new, all-female theatre company. ‘Smooth Faced Gentlemen’ will produce a variety of Shakespeare plays across the UK, with a range of interpretations and styles, always with an entirely female cast of actors.
This particular show
is a stripped-down collaborative vision of the world of Verona, and a faithful re-telling of one of the most loved stories ever told. We’ll be using a small, energetic cast, with lots of doubling and an unobtrusive aesthetic.
Romeo and Juliet will premiere at the Buxton Fringe this July, in a prime-time slot at Underground Venues. Three’s Company (Yaz Al-Shaater, Tom Crawshaw, and Michael Grady-Hall) will be guest directing.
Actresses of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities are encouraged to apply. A good understanding of Shakespeare’s writing is helpful, a love of it is essential. We’re looking for practitioners of all types – experience of Fringe, collaborative/devised theatre, comedy, dance/physical theatre, music…
Mostly, we’re looking for dedicated and talented people, keen to collaborate and contribute, to join the experienced team we’ve already got on board.
Rehearsals will take place in London, mostly at the evening and weekends. This initial production is unpaid, but transport to Buxton and accommodation for ten days will be covered. Performers will be required in Buxton from the 13th – 22nd July.
If you apply, we’ll consider you for all parts. The characters will all be doubled; the exact number and pairings will be decided based on who we cast, but we’ve provided a provisional setup below.
Auditions will be held on Saturday 26th July. You will be asked to perform two pieces: 1) a monologue you are familiar with from Shakespeare (or one of his contemporaries); 2) one of four speeches we’ll provide, which you feel shows a good contrast to your prepared piece (this does not need to be learnt). There may also be a workshop element to the audition.
- Update 24th May 2012 – Audition pieces are now available for download, see this link.
